About the JournalAbstract
The issue of denominational music education is an important part of the history of education. Music education in Transylvanian Reformed schools has a long and interesting history. The exploration of this, in addition to understanding the pedagogical and didactic processes and methods, also provides insight into the liturgical processes of the past. Protestant pastoral training has always placed particular emphasis on the teaching of religious songs and music, which has been seen as a means of effective mission, among other things. The present study aims to provide an insight into a segment of the history of Reformed pastor education in Transylvania, namely the teaching of singing and music at the Reformed Theological Faculty of Cluj-Napoca in the early 20th century, and more specifically into the lives and work of the professors of this institution. The research is primarily based on the data available in the school's annual bulletins, but also tries to reflect on the rather limited other literature on the subject.
