The aim of the study is to present the intertwining of faith and nature in the pre-Enlightenment folk spirit of Jászság in the context of the history of the church in Szentkút (meaning “Holy Well” in Hungarian). By exploring the assumed and real reasons for the emergence of the holy well in Jászberény, and comparing the economic conditions of the time and the needs of the locals, the interconnection of the profane and the sacred world is revealed.
