A New Option for Authors and Reviewers: Open Manuscript Studio

The Church History Review (Egyháztörténeti Szemle) is gradually introducing Open Manuscript Studio into its editorial workflow. The Studio is an open-source scholarly writing and publishing environment that works directly with the journal's online editorial system.

For Authors

Open Manuscript Studio allows authors to edit their manuscripts in an interface similar to conventional word processors, while the system preserves the structure of the article, notes, references, and other scholarly data in the background.

When Studio access is available for a submission, the manuscript can be opened directly from the OJS system. Authors do not need to upload the same manuscript again or manually copy it between different systems.

The Studio can be used, among other things, for:

• viewing and editing the manuscript;
• managing headings, notes, and other document elements;
• reviewing the structure of the document;
• managing revisions made during the editorial process;
• preparing the manuscript for journal publication.

For Reviewers

Open Manuscript Studio also supports the peer-review process. Reviewers can open the manuscript available to them directly from their review assignment in OJS.

In accordance with the rules of double-anonymous peer review, the Studio displays only the information that the reviewer is authorized to access. Information that could reveal the identity of the author is not displayed in the reviewer view.

Reviewers can read the manuscript in a unified editing environment and use the review functions made available to them to carry out their evaluation.

How to Access the Studio

The Studio should always be opened from the Egyháztörténeti Szemle OJS system, using the Studio button or link associated with the relevant submission or review assignment. This ensures that the correct manuscript and the permissions associated with the user's role are opened automatically.

Open Manuscript Studio is under continuous development. We welcome feedback and observations from users, as practical experience directly contributes to the further development of the system.
