Andrea Orosz’s monograph presents the life and work of a poet and Calvinist pastor who was popular in his time but who was forgotten relatively shortly after his death. Although the name of József Kováts, often referred to by posterity as “rhyme-blacksmith Kováts” (his last name meaning “blacksmith”) who died tragically young, appears sometimes in encyclopedia articles and studies, there is a lot of misinformation about him. Andrea Orosz’s volume attempts to collect and analyze all possible sources to complete and correct our present knowledge about Kováts as far as possible.
