Abstract

The first Slovak-speaking Lutheran deaconess mother house in Liptovský Mikuláš began its charity service in Czechoslovakia in 1935, and then in Slovakia between 1939 and 1945. The independence of the Liptovský Mikuláš institution from the Bratislava Deaconess Institute was significantly contributed to by the emerging Slovak ethnic aspirations of the age. The study briefly analyzes the impact of the autonomy aspirations, explores the operation of the Liptovský Mikuláš deaconess mother house from its foundation to the nationalization in the 1950s, and covers the institute's relations with domestic and international charities and mothers.
